The Amigo Family is a contemporary story of an identifiably Black Afro-Latino family based on the lived experience of the creator. It aims to spotlight the tenacity and triumph of a community often left unseen. It will speak to the human spirit and through it, communities globally will find points of grace to thrive together.
The story is based on the lived experience of the creator and Executive Producer, SulmaArzu-Brown a proud Garifuna woman, Immigrant from Honduras and raised in theSouth Bronx. On July 5-6, The Amigo Family was invited by the Essence Festival to do a live – in-person theatre-style performance during the 2024 Essence Film Festival, in New Orleans. It was a great opportunityto put The Amigo Family in front of producers in the hope they pick up the series in the future.
